non stick pan

Nonstick pans are a must-have piece of cookware for all types of cooks. They are not only simple to use and clean, but they also frequently lower the quantity of oil required to cook a food.

This kitchen essential has a Teflon or ceramic layer that keeps food from sticking to the surface and can cook everything from scrambled eggs to fluffy pancakes, rice, fish, and everything in between.

While it is generally knowledge that nonstick pans can be used safely on stovetops, there is some debate about whether they are oven-safe.

This trait is especially handy for foods that begin cooking on the burner and end cooking in the oven, or vice versa.

What factors influence whether a pan can be used in the oven?

Non-Stick Coatings—From teflon to ceramic coatings, and everything in between, many non-stick coatings have temperature exposure restrictions. As a result, the oven temperatures that you can use with certain of these pans may be limited. Some may even be advised to avoid using the oven entirely.

Lids- Your frying pan may be perfectly safe to use in the oven, but the lid may be a different story. The temperature your frying pan can achieve in the oven may be limited depending on the construction of the lid.

What to Look for in an Oven-Safe Frying Pan

If you own a frying pan, skillet, or other piece of cookware and want to know if it’s oven safe, the best plan of action is to learn everything you can about it.

Here are some easy ways to learn new things about your frying pan so you can figure out whether or not it’s oven safe.

If you still have the box in which your cookware arrived, it may be able to provide some light on a number of issues.
Instructions/manual: These days, everything comes with an instruction manual. This will cover a variety of subjects, including whether your frying pan is oven safe.

Pans that can be used in the Oven

Here’s a list of oven-safe pans that don’t have a coating. We’ll try to provide some general temperatures at which materials can be placed in the oven if possible. Please keep in mind that there are a number of factors that can influence this, so it’s best to verify with the manufacturer.

  • Stainless steel in its natural state
  • Copper
  • Iron (Casting)
  • Non-Stick (selective) (May have temperature limits)
  • aluminum with a hard anodized finish

What to Look for in an Oven-Safe Frying Pan

The most straightforward way to determine an oven-safe temperature for a pan is to consult the user manual. All safety information about your cookware should be included in the manual, including whether it can be used in the oven and at what temperature.

Most manufactures offer digital versions of their manuals online if you’ve misplaced or thrown away yours. The user manual for your pan should be archived someplace on the manufacturer’s website, even if it’s an older model. It’s also usually listed in the product’s description on any retailer’s website.

Is it OK to use the lids of frying pans in the oven?

Most frying pan lids aren’t meant to be used in the oven. Because they are frequently formed of glass or other tempered materials, they can be badly damaged by high heat, rendering your pan dangerous to use.

A lid composed of solid stainless steel or cast iron may be an exception to this restriction. Even so, some pan lids cannot be used in the oven. All-Clad stainless steel lids, for example, are not oven-safe.

Again, consulting the user manual and relevant materials is the best way to determine whether or not a pan’s lid is oven-safe.

Can copper pans go in the oven?

Copper pans have excellent heat conductivity, making them ideal for use in the oven. They respond fast to temperature changes in the oven and are ideal for baking.

Copper cookware, on the other hand, is more expensive than other forms of cookware, and since it is a reactive metal, it cannot sustain very high temperatures.
