You’ll need about 15 minutes for 2.5 cm/1 inch of breast piece thickness, perhaps more or less depending on the thickness of the breast piece. The cooking time is determined by the thickness of the pieces rather than their weight.
The easiest way to check is using a meat thermometer; the internal temperature should be 74 degrees Celsius/165 degrees Fahrenheit when inserted into the thickest portion of the meat.
I ate three pieces of chicken, weighing 500 g/1.1 lbs. Each piece weighed around 150-170 g/ 5.3-6 oz and was approximately 1 inch thick, therefore they required 15 minutes.
If your pieces are smaller, check them after 10-12 minutes. If the pieces are thicker, simply increase the cooking time by a few minutes and check the internal temperature on a regular basis until the desired internal temperature is reached.
Cooking times in general:
- 10 minutes for 1.2 cm/ 12 inch thick

Use meat chunks of comparable sizes so that they are all ready at the same time. If any are too little, they may begin to dry by the time the bigger pieces are finished. Alternatively, you might just remember to remove the smaller bits sooner.
I prefer to use frozen chicken pieces because, for some reason, they are always flatter than fresh breasts that I freeze myself. Flatter pieces will cook more evenly and have fewer dry areas around the edges.
This is possible if the breasts are relatively thick in the center compared to the margins. Furthermore, because the meat is frozen, you will be unable to flatten it with a mallet.
Don’t staple the pieces into the basket; instead, arrange them in a single layer.
Spray a little oil on the meat. If you don’t have an oil spray, apply 1 teaspoon oil on it. It’s acceptable to use either vegetable or olive oil.
Season with your preferred seasoning on both sides.
My go-to seasonings are salt, pepper, and sweet paprika powder, but the alternatives are – once again – limitless.
Experiment with different types of paprika (smoked or spicy), garlic powder, and curry powder.
For an eastern flair, use lemon pepper, ras el hanout, or sumac, as well as any chicken seasoning of your choice, Cajun spices, and so on. Basically, whatever you want.
