How To Steam Broccoli In Microwave ?

These are the fundamental steps:

1. To begin, place the florets in a microwave-safe bowl with a small amount of water.

2. Microwave the bowl on high for 4 minutes, covered.

3. Mix in your dressing, toss lightly, and serve. That concludes our discussion.

I use the easiest dressing for the broccoli. A squeeze of lemon juice, a dab of olive oil or melted butter, coarse salt, and black pepper It’s delicious – flavorful, fresh, and crisp – as long as the broccoli isn’t overcooked.

Another wonderful option is to drizzle this thick and creamy cheese sauce over the broccoli.

Why do I like this simple broccoli recipe so much?

I understand. Although microwaved broccoli may not seem like a recipe, I wanted to share it since steaming vegetables in the microwave is one of my favorite ways to make weekday dinners quicker. It not only makes my life easier, but I believe it also improves the quality of our dinners.

If I’m not creating a one-pot dinner, like my ___, I usually stick to a protein, carb, and vegetable formula. We used to rely on frozen vegetables, and while they’re good and can be used in an emergency, there’s just something about fresh vegetables that makes me want to eat them. They’re somewhat crisp and flavorful, and they’re a million times better than frozen or canned veggies.

This method is also useful for preparing veggies for a rapid stir fry, and I use it in my Chinese chicken and broccoli recipe before adding the broccoli to the cooked chicken and sauce.

Serving Suggestions

Broccoli pairs well with almost anything, so serve it alongside your favorite main courses. For a great lunch, serve it over my smoked beef roast, grilled chicken fettuccine Alfredo, reverse sear tomahawk steak. You can also use it to top a baked potato with cheese, and broccoli, make your own pizza, or toss it into pasta, soups, or salads. Enjoy!

Reheating & Storage

Refrigerate any leftover steamed broccoli in an airtight container for up to 4 – 5 days. Before putting your microwave steamed broccoli in the fridge, make sure it has completely cooled.

Freezing Cooked Broccoli

If you’re going to freeze cooked broccoli leftovers, make sure they’re completely cool. Then put it in an airtight freezer container or a plastic freezer storage bag to keep it fresh.

The cooked broccoli can be frozen for up to a year and still produce excellent results (however, it can last longer). When I use the preserved broccoli during the first 9 – 10 months, I always get the best benefits.

The Best Way To Steam Broccoli

Microwaves are one of the most convenient and rapid ways to cook veggies. Here’s how you steam broccoli (or any other vegetable) in the microwave. It’s almost foolproof!

  • Broccoli should be cut into bite-size florets. If you wish to eat the stalks, break them into bite-sized pieces and remove any particularly woody portions so everything cooks evenly.
  • Fill a microwave-safe bowl halfway with water and add all of the broccoli. A ceramic bowl is one of our favorites. 2 to 3 tablespoons water per pound of broccoli (about one head).
  • Close the lid tightly. When microwaving, we avoid using plastic wrap and instead use a ceramic or stoneware dish.
  • Microwave for 3 to 4 minutes on HIGH (normal power). This should yield tender but slightly crispy broccoli, not mushy, depending on the power of your microwave. If it’s not done after 2 1/2 minutes, check, re-cover, and put it back in.
  • Carefully remove the cover! Remove the lid to halt the steaming, but be careful; the steam is extremely hot and can severely burn you if you’re not careful.
  • Before steaming, we may add a little pat of butter or a splash of soy sauce. After the broccoli has been cooked, we normally season it with salt and pepper.

Is It Bad To Use The Microwave?

On the contrary, in fact! Microwaves are thought to be safe. Cooking veggies in the microwave has the clear advantage of being a superior cooking method than boiling them in water.

Can I Keep The Leftovers?

Yes. In an airtight container, keep the leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days. They will, however, not be as nice as when served fresh. They have a tendency to get a little soggy. Reheat them in the microwave on 50% power, covered, for a few minutes.

Notes

  1. Only the nutritional information for steamed broccoli is provided. A serving of broccoli coated in butter, salt, and pepper has about 100 calories.
  2. Microwave ovens come in a variety of sizes. However, it is preferable to slightly undercook the broccoli rather than overcook it. So, after 4 minutes, start checking. You can always add another 30-60 seconds if necessary.

What To Serve With Microwave Broccoli?

This is a versatile side dish. It’s quite adaptable. Beef, poultry, and seafood all go well with it. It’s also an excellent side dish for vegetarian entrees. This dish is frequently served as a side dish to one of the following main courses:

  • Catfish that has been baked
  • Chicken in a butter sauce
  • Shrimp with a kick
  • casserole with cheeseburgers
